West Bengal only joined the central Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) scheme in 2026, after years of running its own Swasthya Sathi programme instead. That switch has left a lot of families confused about which hospitals actually accept the Ayushman Card here, and where to find a reliable, updated list.

If you've been searching for the "Ayushman Bharat hospitals list West Bengal PDF" and getting confused answers, you're not imagining it. West Bengal wasn't part of the central Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) β the scheme most people call Ayushman Bharat β for years after it launched nationally in 2018.
Instead, the state ran its own health cover called Swasthya Sathi. It worked in a similar way, offering cashless treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh a year, but only at hospitals empanelled under the state's own list, not the national one. That is why older blog posts and forum answers about "Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal" often don't apply anymore.
Following the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections and the change in state government, the new administration moved to bring the state into PM-JAY. Reports on the exact rollout date vary β some place it around May 2026, others point to a formal go-live around July 2026 β so treat any single date you read online as approximate, and check the official portal for the current status rather than relying on one article.
What matters practically is this: eligible families in West Bengal can now apply for an Ayushman Card, and the state is gradually onboarding government and private hospitals into the national network. Empanelment is not instant. A hospital doesn't get added the day it applies; it goes through verification first. So a hospital list from even a few weeks ago may already be outdated.
Skip the random PDFs floating around WhatsApp groups. The only list worth trusting is the one on the official portal, Here's the process:
Go to the official PM-JAY hospital search page.
Select West Bengal as the state, then narrow down by district β Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, and so on.
You can filter further by hospital type (government or private) and by specialty if you need a specific kind of treatment.
Hit search, and the portal usually gives you an option to download the results as a PDF for your records.
A word of caution: because West Bengal's empanelment is still expanding, the number of listed hospitals can genuinely change month to month. Anyone who tells you a fixed, final number of "X hospitals in West Bengal" is probably quoting an outdated snapshot rather than a stable figure.
This is the part that trips up most families. Having a Swasthya Sathi card does not automatically make you eligible for PM-JAY. The two schemes pull from different eligibility databases: Swasthya Sathi was designed to cover almost every resident family in the state, while PM-JAY uses the SECC 2011 (Socio-Economic Caste Census) data, which is narrower and poverty-focused.
So it's entirely possible to have held a Swasthya Sathi card for years and still not qualify for an Ayushman Card. Keep your Swasthya Sathi card active for now. No official order has cancelled it, and hospitals are still expected to honour it at Swasthya Sathi-empanelled facilities, separate from the PM-JAY network.
Before you or a family member gets admitted anywhere assuming the card will work, do these two things:
Confirm the hospital's current empanelment status on the official portal, not from memory or a relative's word.
Call the hospital's Ayushman Mitra desk directly and ask them to confirm, especially for a planned surgery where you have time to double-check.
Carry your Ayushman Card (physical or the digital version on your phone), a valid ID, and any prior treatment records if it's a follow-up case. In clinical and hospital-admin settings, this is often where families lose time during an actual emergency β not because the scheme doesn't cover them, but because nobody confirmed empanelment status beforehand, and the front desk has to pause everything to verify it on the spot.
