Best cardiologist near me" is one of the most typed health searches around, but it's also one of the hardest to answer honestly, because "best" depends entirely on what you actually need.

Type "best cardiologist in South 24 Parganas" into Google and you'll get pages that confidently rank five or ten names with star ratings next to them. Some of that is genuinely useful. A lot of it is recycled listicle content with numbers nobody actually verified.
I'm not going to hand you a ranked top-5 here, and honestly, any writer who does that for a district this large β without pulling live, verified data for every town in it β is guessing more than they're letting on. What's more useful is showing you how to judge "best" yourself, because the right cardiologist for a 70-year-old with existing heart failure is not the right cardiologist for a 40-year-old wanting a first cholesterol check.
A cardiologist who's excellent at managing long-term hypertension in an elderly patient isn't automatically the right choice for someone who needs an urgent angioplasty. Interventional cardiologists specifically train in procedures like angioplasty and stenting. General cardiologists handle diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing monitoring, and refer onward when a procedure is needed.
So the first honest question isn't "who's rated highest," it's "what does my specific situation actually need?" A routine BP review and a post-heart-attack recovery plan are not the same search.
Qualification first. Look for DM (Cardiology) or DNB (Cardiology) after an MBBS and MD. That's the real specialist training. A doctor who lists "cardiac care" on a signboard without that qualification behind it is worth a second look before booking, not an automatic red flag, but a fair question to ask the clinic directly.
Years in active practice, not just years since graduation. Someone with 15 years of hands-on cardiology work, seeing patients daily, tends to have handled a wider range of presentations than someone with the same years on paper but a lighter caseload. There's no clean number that proves this either way, so ask how often they see patients like you.
Hospital backup. This matters more in South 24 Parganas than in central Kolkata, because cardiac catheterisation labs (the equipment needed for emergency angioplasty) aren't evenly spread across the district. A cardiologist attached to a hospital with a cath lab on site can act immediately if something turns urgent. One who only consults at a small nursing home might need to refer you elsewhere first, which costs time in an emergency.
Genuine patient feedback, read critically. In clinical practice, this is often missed because people trust a star rating on its own, without checking whether it's based on three reviews or three hundred. A doctor with a smaller but consistent set of specific, detailed reviews β about wait times, how clearly they explained a diagnosis, whether follow-up was easy β usually tells you more than a bare 4.8 out of 5.
South 24 Parganas stretches from Kolkata-adjacent towns like Sonarpur and Garia down to Diamond Harbour and further into the Sundarbans belt. Cardiac specialist density drops the further south you go, and that's simply a fact of how healthcare infrastructure gets built around population density, not a comment on the quality of doctors who do practise there.
If you're closer to the district's northern towns, you're within reach of Kolkata's stronger hospital cluster β AMRI, Manipal, and similar centres around Mukundapur and Garia β which run full cardiology departments with round-the-clock cath lab access. Further south, expect fewer full-time specialists and more visiting-consultant arrangements at district or sub-divisional hospitals. Neither is automatically "bad," but they call for different planning.
Across South 24 Parganas and greater Kolkata, cardiologist consultation fees commonly range from about βΉ500 to βΉ1,500, depending on the doctor's experience and the hospital's tier. I'd be cautious about a claimed DM-Cardiology consult priced well outside that range in either direction, not because it's automatically wrong, but because it's worth a direct question before you book.
If someone has sudden chest pain, pain spreading to the arm or jaw, sudden severe breathlessness, or collapses, this isn't the moment to compare doctor ratings. Call 108 or head straight to the nearest hospital with a 24-hour emergency department. Picking "the best cardiologist" can happen after the person is stable.
