Check the list of medical colleges in Jharkhand 2026-27, including government, private and AIIMS institutions, MBBS seats and admission details.

Jharkhand's medical education landscape has expanded sharply for the 2026-27 academic session. The National Medical Commission (NMC) seat matrix lists 10 MBBS medical colleges in the state, while AIIMS Deoghar is separately listed as an Institute of National Importance.
For students, the distinction matters. A college being located in Jharkhand does not automatically mean its seats are filled through the same counselling route. Government colleges generally have state and All India Quota mechanisms, while deemed and private institutions can have different admission and fee structures.
The latest JCECEB notices confirm that Jharkhand is conducting NEET-UG 2026 counselling for MBBS, BDS and BHMS admissions, including multiple rounds and a stray-vacancy round.
Medical college | Location | Type | MBBS seats 2026-27 |
|---|---|---|---|
AIIMS Deoghar | Deoghar | Government/INI | 125* |
Dumka Medical College | Dumka | Government | 100 |
Hazaribagh Medical College | Hazaribagh | Government | 100 |
MGM Medical College | Jamshedpur | Government | 150 |
Palamu Medical College | Palamu | Government | 100 |
RIMS Ranchi | Ranchi | Government | 250 |
Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College & Hospital | Dhanbad | Government | 100 |
Laxmi Chandravansi Medical College & Hospital | Palamu | Private | 150 |
Manipal Tata Medical College | Jamshedpur | Private/Deemed | 250 |
Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital | Jharkhand | Private | 200 |
Sido Kanhu Medical College and Hospital | Dumka | Private/New | 100 |
*AIIMS Deoghar is not included in the NMC state seat matrix because that matrix excludes Institutes of National Importance. The latest official AIIMS admission material available lists 125 MBBS seats.
The other 10 colleges and their 2026-27 MBBS capacities are reflected in the NMC-linked seat data.
Government colleges remain the main option for students looking for comparatively lower-cost MBBS education. The major state-run institutions include RIMS Ranchi, MGM Medical College in Jamshedpur, Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College in Dhanbad, Dumka Medical College, Hazaribagh Medical College and Palamu Medical College.
RIMS Ranchi is the state's largest and best-known teaching medical institution. Its official website continues to publish academic notices, examinations and institutional updates for the 2026-27 period.
Students considering the state capital can also explore doctors and specialists in Ranchi and related healthcare information before choosing where they would prefer to study and eventually practise.
Dumka and Hazaribagh each have 100 MBBS seats in the 2026-27 NMC matrix. For students researching healthcare facilities around Dumka and Deoghar, AIIMS Deoghar is another major institution to know, although its admission system is separate from ordinary state medical colleges.
AIIMS Deoghar deserves a separate mention because it is not simply another state government medical college. It is an Institute of National Importance under the Government of India, and MBBS admission is through the national AIIMS/NEET admission framework rather than ordinary JCECEB state counselling.
The institute's official website is actively publishing MBBS examination and academic notices in 2026. Students researching the institution can also read Doctar's AIIMS Deoghar complete guide and AIIMS Deoghar medical education overview.
Private medical education has also grown in the state. The 2026-27 NMC matrix includes Laxmi Chandravansi Medical College & Hospital with 150 seats, Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital with 200 seats, and the new Sido Kanhu Medical College and Hospital with 100 seats.
Manipal Tata Medical College in Jamshedpur has 250 MBBS seats in the 2026-27 NMC matrix after an increase from its previous intake.
The new Sido Kanhu Medical College and Hospital is particularly relevant for 2026-27 applicants because it is a new establishment with 100 MBBS seats.
Seat count alone is a poor way to judge a medical college. Students should check the current NMC permission, attached teaching hospital, clinical patient exposure, faculty availability, hostel arrangements, internship structure and fee schedule.
In clinical practice, this is often missed because students naturally focus on NEET rank and college name first. But the quality and volume of clinical exposure during MBBS can influence how confident a student becomes with basic patient assessment and hospital work.
For a broader picture of healthcare infrastructure, students can compare information about government hospitals in Dhanbad, emergency hospitals in Dhanbad, and top hospitals in Deoghar.
NEET-UG remains the qualifying examination for MBBS admission. For Jharkhand state counselling, students should follow the JCECEB counselling notices rather than relying on old counselling calendars.
The board's August 2026 notices specifically mention preparation of the state merit list based on NEET-UG 2026 results and the first, second, third and stray-vacancy rounds for MBBS admission.
Before filling choices, applicants should verify whether a college is available in the relevant counselling round and whether the seat is under the state quota, management quota or another category.
Students may also find these Doctar resources useful while researching healthcare in the state: OPD consultation in Deoghar, best pediatricians in Deoghar, child surgery hospitals in Deoghar, female OPD consultation in Ranchi, and doctors in Dhanbad.
The 2026-27 intake has brought substantial changes to Jharkhand's medical education capacity. MGM Medical College's MBBS intake has risen to 150, while RIMS has a 250-seat figure in the NMC matrix.
There are also new private-sector additions. Sido Kanhu Medical College and Hospital has received approval for 100 MBBS seats for the new academic session.
For students comparing future clinical opportunities, resources such as AIIMS Deoghar OPD information, AIIMS Deoghar emergency services, AIIMS Deoghar hospital profile, RIMS Ranchi hospital profile, and general doctors in Dhanbad can provide useful local healthcare context
