Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP)

The Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, is one of India's oldest and most prestigious mental health institutions. Established on 17 May 1918, the institute functions under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

Spread across approximately 210–211 acres in Kanke, Ranchi, CIP provides comprehensive psychiatric care, mental health rehabilitation, education, and research services. The institute has played a pioneering role in the development of psychiatry and neurosciences in India, introducing several innovative mental health services, training programs, and research initiatives.

With a bed capacity of 643, specialized clinical departments, and a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals, CIP serves patients from across India while also training future psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers, and psychiatric nurses
