Aeknil Injection is a medicine used for relieving pain and reducing fever. It contains paracetamol. It is used for the short-term treatment of pain especially after surgery and fever when medicines can not be taken orally by the patient.
Paracetamol works by interfering with the release of certain natural chemical substances (prostaglandins) and relieves pain & fever. This injection is given under medical supervision in a healthcare setup. Tell your doctor about your complete medical history before taking this injection.
Aeknil Injection will be given in a hospital by your doctor or nurse as an injection. This is not meant for self-administration.
Aeknil Injection can be used during pregnancy if the doctor recommends. But it should be used for a short duration in low doses and not too frequently by pregnant women.
Paracetamol passes into breastmilk in small amount. Aeknil Injection can be used during breastfeeding.
Paracetamol is not likely to affect your ability to drive or use machines.
It is advised not to consume alcohol during the treatment. Especially if you have an existing liver condition and you drink too often.
Talk to your doctor if
The injection will be administered by the doctor or nurse, so the chance of an overdose is very low. However, in case of an overdose you may experience nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and stomach ache.
You will be administered by health professionals as to when the medicine should be given to you. So the chance of missing a dose is very low. But if you think they might have missed a dose, inform them.
There are some chemicals in the body called prostaglandins. These are substances that cause pain, swelling and fever. Aeknil Injection contains paracetamol which blocks the production of these prostaglandins, thus temporarily controlling fever or pain. And as it acts on the part of the brain which controls the temperature of the body, it controls the fever.
Be cautious if you are a patient with liver problems, kidney problems and you consume alcohol in excess too frequently.
