The B. Braun Certofix Trio Paed S 508 is a sterile, single-use medical device designed for the insertion of a triple-lumen central venous catheter in pediatric and neonatal patients. This set facilitates venous access through the Seldinger technique, allowing for multiple infusions and monitoring capabilities.
The device is intended for use by trained medical professionals in settings where central venous access is required for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes. The triple-lumen design enables simultaneous administration of different fluids, medications, or parenteral nutrition, as well as blood sampling, without the need for multiple venipunctures. The catheter is radiopaque, aiding in its visualization and accurate placement under fluoroscopy or other imaging modalities.
The proximal lumen is typically used for infusions, the middle lumen for medications or rapid infusions, and the distal lumen for monitoring of central venous pressure or for blood sampling. The catheter material is designed to be soft and kink-resistant to minimize patient discomfort and maintain patency. Length markings on the catheter facilitate precise insertion to the desired depth.
Color-coded Luer-Lock hubs are provided for secure connection of infusion lines and syringes, reducing the risk of accidental disconnection. Fixation wings at the channel junction and a separate movable fixation with wings are included to secure the catheter at the puncture site, preventing dislodgement and minimizing the risk of infection. A soft, self-adhesive fixation is also provided for additional security.
The set includes a Seldinger needle, a kink-proof guide wire with a flexible J-tip for atraumatic insertion, a dilator to create a tract for the catheter, a scalpel for skin incision, and Safsite connectors for secure, needle-free access. An Omnifix syringe is also included for aspiration and flushing. A dedicated cable for ECG monitoring is part of the set, enabling electrocardiogram-based tip placement and position control, which is a critical safety feature in pediatric and neonatal patients to avoid cardiac complications.
This method assists in confirming the catheter tip is in the superior vena cava or at the cavoatrial junction. The Certofix Trio Paed S 508 is indicated for short-term and long-term central venous access in neonates, infants, and children for fluid and electrolyte management, administration of medications and parenteral nutrition, and hemodynamic monitoring. It is crucial that insertion is performed by qualified healthcare providers following aseptic techniques and institutional protocols.
Post-insertion care, including site assessment and dressing changes, is essential to prevent complications such as infection, thrombosis, or catheter occlusion. The device is intended for single use only and should be disposed of according to medical waste guidelines.
