Calcigen D3 Capsule is a therapeutic and nutritional supplement that contains cholecalciferol, commonly known as Vitamin D3. It is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an indispensable role in maintaining calcium and phosphate homeostasis in the human body. Adequate levels of Vitamin D3 are essential for proper growth, development, and mineralisation of bones and teeth, as well as for the functioning of muscles, the cardiovascular system, and the immune system.
When taken orally, cholecalciferol undergoes a two-step activation process in the body. It is first metabolised in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcidiol), which serves as the major circulating form and an indicator of Vitamin D status. This intermediate is then further hydroxylated in the kidneys to form 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol), the biologically active hormone.
Calcitriol acts by binding to specific Vitamin D receptors located in various tissues, particularly in the intestines, kidneys, and bones. Its primary physiological effect is to enhance the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, reduce renal calcium excretion, and promote bone mineralisation and remodelling. It also regulates parathyroid hormone secretion, thereby preventing secondary hyperparathyroidism and maintaining stable serum calcium concentrations.
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a spectrum of disorders, including rickets in children, osteomalacia in adults, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, hypocalcemia, and increased fracture risk. Modern lifestyles with reduced outdoor activity, heavy use of sunscreens, darker skin pigmentation, advanced age, and certain medical conditions such as chronic kidney disease, malabsorption syndromes, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel disease contribute to widespread deficiency. Calcigen D3 Capsule serves as an effective means of restoring and maintaining optimal Vitamin D levels in such individuals.
Calcigen D3 Capsule may cause mild side effects like constipation, increased blood calcium or urine calcium levels, vomiting, and nausea, which typically resolve on their own. Consult your doctor if side effects persist or if you have an allergy to it. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should seek medical advice before use, as Calcigen D3 Capsule can pass into breast milk.
Caution is advised for those with hypercalcemia, renal impairment, heart diseases, kidney stones, or hypervitaminosis D.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
Taking more than the prescribed dose can cause vitamin D toxicity, leading to hypercalcemia. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, frequent urination, confusion, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention in case of overdose.
After being ingested, Calcigen D3 (cholecalciferol) is absorbed from the intestine and converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D. It is then converted in the kidneys to its active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol). This active form boosts the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestines, reduces their excretion in urine, and regulates bone remodelling. By maintaining sufficient calcium levels, it prevents bone weakening, supports muscle contraction, and ensures proper nerve transmission.

Calcigen D3 Capsules are usually well-tolerated, but in some cases, side effects may occur, especially with high doses or prolonged use:
The best source of vitamin D is sunlight. Vitamin D is formed under our skin when we are exposed to the sun. Very few food products are a good source of vitamin D such as cod liver oil, cheese, egg yolk, etc. Sun exposure from 10 am to 3 pm at least twice a week for 10-30 minutes can help you prevent vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D is crucial for calcium absorption, bone health, immune support, and mood regulation. Many people, especially in areas with limited sunlight, may not get enough vitamin D naturally. Deficiency can cause weak bones, muscle weakness, and increased infection risk. Supplementing with vitamin D is often necessary, especially in winter or for those with certain health conditions.
Calcigen D3 Capsule should be taken under medical supervision by a pregnant woman.
