Calspray Nasal Spray contains calcitonin as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. This medication is indicated for the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis, a condition characterized by the thinning of bones in women following the natural cessation of menstruation. Postmenopausal osteoporosis leads to increased bone fragility and a higher risk of fractures.
Additionally, Calspray is prescribed for the treatment of bone pain that arises from increased bone resorption due to various underlying medical conditions. Calcitonin, the active component, functions by directly inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts, which are the specialized bone cells responsible for the breakdown and resorption of bone tissue. By modulating osteoclast function, Calspray helps to reduce bone loss and alleviate associated pain.
This action contributes to the preservation of bone mineral density and can improve patient comfort. Medical consultation and ongoing supervision are required before and during treatment with this medication.
Symptoms of overdose may include spasm of hands and feet, or cramps. As this medicine is intended for nasal application, cases of overdose are unlikely. However, in the event of accidental ingestion, contact a physician immediately or visit the nearest hospital.
If a dose of this medicine is missed, administer it as soon as possible. Do not overuse this medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
