Cataspa tablet is a combination of medicine containing diclofenac and dicycloverine. It is used for the treatment of abdominal pain associated with stomach or bowel cramps in certain conditions of stomach or bowel. Diclofenac works by decreasing swelling and pain by inhibiting the synthesis of a natural substance called prostaglandin.
Prostaglandin is a natural substance found in the body that can cause swelling or pain. Dicyclomine works by relaxing muscles of the stomach and bowel and decreasing the natural movement of the bowel. Headache, dizziness, spinning sensation of head, nausea or vomiting, loose motion are some of the side effects of using this medicine.
If side effects do not go away on their own or your condition doesn't improve over time then inform your doctor.
Symptoms of overdose include headache, nausea, vomiting, pain in the stomach, dry mouth, difficulty in swallowing, dryness of skin, bleeding from stomach or bowel, loose motions, dizziness, sleepiness, fainting, seizures etc. If you have taken too much of this medicine then contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.
If you have missed taking any dose of this medicine then take it as soon as you remember. If it's already time for the next dose then skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule.
Components of this medicine can cause harm to unborn babies if taken by pregnant women. This medicine should not be taken by pregnant women.
Components of this medicine are known to pass in breastmilk and can cause harm to breastfed babies. This medicine should not be taken by lactating mother.
This medicine can cause dizziness, a spinning sensation of the head, sleepiness, tiredness, vision problem. Avoid driving if you have dizziness, spinning sensation of head, sleepiness, tiredness, vision problem.
Consumption of alcohol while on this medicine can cause an increased chance of stomach bleeding, sleepiness or dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption while on this medicine.
Talk to your doctor if
If you are allergic to diclofenac, dicycloverine or any other ingredients of this medicine. If you presently have a stomach or bowel ulcer which either bleeds or perforate. If you had stomach or bowel bleeding or perforation due to intake of medicines from the NSAID group. If you are pregnant and completed 6 months of pregnancy. If you have severe liver disease. If you have severe kidney disease. If you have heart disease, narrowing or blockage of the peripheral blood vessel or disease of a blood vessel supplying the brain. If you have breathing difficulty, swelling of lips, tongue, face etc, itching after taking any medicine from the NSAID group.
Cataspa tablet has to be swallowed whole and not to be chewed or crushed.
Cataspa tablet should not be taken for back pain associated with spasm of the back as it works on muscles of the stomach or bowel which are different from muscles of the back.
Cataspa tablet can cause constipation as a side effect of using this medicine. To prevent constipation eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water and do regular exercise.
Cataspa tablet should be used in dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Consult your doctor if your symptoms persist even after completing the given course of treatment. Cataspa tablet should not be used for a prolonged period.
