Cefolac Cv Dt 100mg Tablets contain a combination of cefixime and clavulanic acid, functioning as an antibiotic medication. This formulation is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections affecting various body systems. Specific applications include infections of the urinary tract, lungs, throat, and tonsils, as well as skin infections.
It is also used in the management of conditions such as typhoid fever and gonorrhea. Cefixime, a cephalosporin antibiotic, exerts its bactericidal effect by interfering with the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to bacterial cell death. However, certain bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes, which can degrade cefixime and render it ineffective.
Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that counteracts this bacterial resistance mechanism. By inactivating these enzymes, clavulanic acid protects cefixime from degradation, thereby enhancing its antibacterial spectrum and efficacy against susceptible organisms.
