Clavam Bid Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections in the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. This medicine is specially designed for children and should be used under adult supervision. You can give Clavam Bid Dry Syrup to your child with or without food, but it is recommended to give it with food to improve absorption and reduce the risk of stomach upset.
The doctor may prescribe it to be taken two to three times a day. The dose depends on the severity and type of infection as well as your child’s weight and age. It is important to stick to the prescribed dose, timing, and method of administration.
If your child vomits the medication within 30 minutes of taking it, let them calm down and repeat the dose. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, do not double the dose. Possible side effects of Clavam Bid Dry Syrup include vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, and allergic reactions.
These side effects usually pass on their own, but if they continue or become bothersome, consult your child's doctor immediately. Be sure to inform the doctor of your child’s complete medical history, including any past allergies, heart problems, blood disorders, birth defects, airway obstructions, lung issues, gastrointestinal problems, skin conditions and liver or kidney impairments. This information will assist the doctor in adjusting the dose and planning your child's overall treatment.
Symptoms of an overdose include stomach disturbances, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness and fluid retention. If you have given too much of Clavam Bid Dry Syrup to your child, contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.
It is advised not to miss any dose of antibiotics as it can affect the treatment regimen. If you have missed giving any dose of Clavam Bid Dry Syrup, then give it as soon as you remember. If it's already time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule.
Clavam Bid Dry Syrup works by the combined action of both its components - amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin works by killing the bacteria responsible for infections. However, the bacteria make the enzyme (beta-lactamases) which can destroy amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid inactivates this enzyme and hence helps amoxicillin to perform its function.
Talk to your doctor if

Clavam Bid Dry Syrup can start showing its effect approximately after 1 hour of its consumption. However, it varies among individuals and can also vary due to the severity of the infection.
