It can decrease the transmission of pain signals from the nerves to the brain, reducing pain perception. It also enhances the effects of chemicals in the brain, and spinal cord called serotonin and noradrenaline that further help in reducing pain. The medication can generally show its effect within one hour of taking it, and it lasts for about 48 hours in the body.
