Esotab Tablet contains esomeprazole, an active ingredient that reduces stomach acid production. It is prescribed for the treatment of various gastrointestinal conditions, including acid reflux disease, stomach and intestinal ulcers, and for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria, which helps to lower the risk of recurrent intestinal ulcers.
The medication is also indicated for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition characterized by excessive stomach acid secretion resulting from tumors in the pancreas. Esomeprazole functions by inhibiting the proton pump in the stomach lining, thereby decreasing the overall output of gastric acid. The dosage and duration of treatment should be determined by a healthcare professional.
It is generally recommended to take this medication on an empty stomach, approximately one hour before a meal. Patients should provide their complete medical history to their doctor before initiating treatment with Esotab Tablet.
Symptoms of overdose may include weakness and stomach discomfort. In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention or visit the nearest hospital.
If a dose of Esotab Tablet is missed, take it as soon as remembered. If it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed one.
Esomeprazole, the active ingredient in Esotab Tablet, works by reducing the activity of proton pumps in the stomach wall. These pumps are responsible for secreting digestive acids. By inhibiting these pumps, esomeprazole effectively lowers the production and secretion of stomach acid.
Use of Esotab Tablet during pregnancy requires medical consultation to assess potential benefits against risks to the fetus.
Esotab Tablet should not be used by breastfeeding mothers as it is not known if the active ingredient passes into breast milk and could potentially affect the breastfed infant.
Treatment with Esotab Tablets may cause visual disturbances (such as blurred vision) and dizziness. Individuals experiencing these effects should avoid driving or operating machinery.
While no specific interaction with alcohol is known, alcohol consumption can increase stomach acidity and may exacerbate digestive issues. Therefore, alcohol should be avoided during treatment with Esotab Tablet.
Consult a healthcare professional if:
