This product consists of sterile, synthetic, absorbable sutures with attached needles, designed for use in surgical wound closure. The suture material is polydioxanone, a polymer known for its strength and predictable absorption characteristics. Each unit contains a 70cm length of USP 0 size suture, which is a monofilament structure, meaning it is a single strand.

This monofilament design contributes to a smooth passage through tissue, minimizing drag and potential tissue trauma. The suture is violet in color, which aids in its visibility during surgical procedures, facilitating accurate placement and knot tying. The PDS II designation indicates a specific formulation of polydioxanone sutures developed for enhanced tensile strength retention over time compared to earlier versions.

This extended strength profile is crucial for supporting tissues during the critical healing phases. The absorption of PDS II sutures occurs through hydrolysis, a process where the material is gradually broken down by the body's fluids.
