Febutec 40 tablet contains febuxostat, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used for the long-term management of chronic hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels in the blood), particularly in patients with gouty arthritis. Gout is a painful inflammatory condition caused by the deposition of urate crystals in the joints, leading to redness, swelling, warmth, stiffness, and intense joint pain, commonly affecting the big toe, ankles, knees, or wrists. Febutec 40 helps reduce uric acid levels and prevents further crystal deposition.
Febuxostat works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which plays a key role in converting purines into uric acid in the body. By reducing the production of uric acid, this medicine helps prevent the formation of new urate crystals and may gradually dissolve existing deposits. Febutec 40 is used for long-term control of uric acid levels and not for immediate relief of an acute gout attack.
Treatment with Febutec 40 tablets should be initiated and monitored by a doctor. In some cases, gout attacks may temporarily increase after starting therapy due to changes in uric acid levels. Your doctor may prescribe additional medicines to prevent such flare-ups during the initial phase of treatment.
Regular monitoring of uric acid levels and liver function tests may be recommended during therapy. Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor if you have heart disease, liver or kidney problems, thyroid disorders, or a history of hypersensitivity reactions. Febutec is not recommended in patients with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome and should be used cautiously in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed and do not discontinue it without medical advice, even if symptoms improve.
Seek urgent medical help in case you have consumed too much of the Febutec 40 tablet.
You should never miss a dose of your medicines. If you have missed any dose of the Febutec 40 tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.
Febutec 40 tablet works by lowering the amount of uric acid your body makes. It blocks an enzyme responsible for producing uric acid from substances called purines. When uric acid levels are high, crystals can build up in your joints and cause painful gout attacks. By reducing uric acid levels, this medicine helps prevent new crystals from forming and slowly clears existing ones. With regular use, it helps reduce the frequency and severity of gout attacks over time.
Febutec 40 tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor with or without food. For optimal results, take this medicine at a fixed time every day and do not miss any doses.
There is limited safety data available about the use of Febutec tablet in pregnant women. If pregnancy detected while taking this medicine inform your doctor immediately.
It is not known if the Febutec tablet can pass into the breastmilk. Seek advice from your doctor if you are a breastfeeding woman.
Febutec tablet may cause dizziness, sleepiness, blurred vision or tingling sensation. It is recommended to avoid performing activities like driving and operating machines unless you are sure how this medicine affects you.
Febutec tablet is not known to have an interaction with alcohol. Consult your doctor if you have a habit of drinking alcohol.
Talk to your doctor if
If you are allergic to febuxostat or any other ingredient of this medicine.

You can take a Febutec 40 tablet at any time, regardless of meals. However, taking them with food may help minimise any potential stomach upset.
Febutec tablet works by inhibiting an enzyme that is involved in the uric acid formation, thereby lowering the uric acid levels.
Some may experience side effects like nausea, diarrhoea, headache and nausea after taking the Febutec tablet. Most of these are temporary, but if you feel the side effects persist or your condition worsens, you should contact your doctor immediately.
Febutec tablet is used in the treatment of chronic hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels in the blood), where such deposition has already occurred in conditions like gouty arthritis.
You should take Febutec tablet exactly as your doctor has told you. It would be best if you take it in the morning. Try to take it at the same time each day for maximum benefit.
The duration of the treatment will be decided by your doctor after assessing your condition. Do not stop taking this medicine on your own even if you feel better.
Chronic hyperuricemia is a condition of elevated uric acid levels in the body. It leads to the deposition of uric acid crystals in joints and tissues causing redness, swelling, stiffness, feeling of warmth and tenderness.
It is usually caused due to an unhealthy lifestyle that includes intake of food rich in purine (your body breaks down purine to form uric acid), alcohol, fructose (a type of sugar), certain medicines, etc. People who are obese and have certain medical conditions such as diabetes, poor kidney function, high blood pressure and metabolic disorders are more prone to develop hyperuricemia.
