Hitflo Syrup is prescribed for the management of conditions linked to elevated uric acid concentrations in the body, such as gout, kidney stones, and various urinary tract infections. Its primary active component is disodium hydrogen citrate, which functions as a urine alkalinizer. The mechanism of action involves increasing the pH of the urine, thereby making it more alkaline.
This elevation in urinary pH significantly improves the solubility of uric acid, which in turn promotes its efficient removal from the body via the urinary system. Clinical considerations include exercising caution when prescribing Hitflo Syrup to patients with underlying kidney diseases, heart conditions, lung disorders, or those with documented high levels of sodium or potassium. Patients are advised to maintain a high fluid intake, particularly water, throughout the duration of treatment.
To minimize the occurrence of gastrointestinal upset, it is recommended to administer Hitflo Syrup concurrently with or immediately after meals.
