Melgain Lotion contains Decapeptide as its active ingredient. It is used to treat vitiligo or white patches. Vitiligo is a disease that causes loss of skin colour in patches due to loss of pigment cells (melanocytes) which result in discoloured patches in different areas of the body, including the skin, hair and mucous membranes.
Melgain Lotion works by restoring the pigment cells and allowing healthy pigment cells to reach the affected area. It should be applied externally only. If you experience any other effect after applying this medicine, reach out to the doctor immediately.
There are no side effects reported with this medicine. However, if you experience any symptoms after application of this Lotion, consult your doctor.
As Melgain Lotion is meant for external application, cases of overdose are unlikely. However, upon accidental ingestion, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital. If you have applied extra quantities of it, wipe out the excess of the medicine with tissue or cotton.
If you have missed applying Melgain Lotion, apply it as soon as possible. Do not over-apply this medicine to compensate for the missed application.
Melgain Lotion works by modulating cell growth, differentiation and motility. It activates and stimulates regrowth of the melanocytes (cells responsible for skin pigmentation) in the depigmented area in the vitiligo patch and surrounding skin, resulting in re-pigmentation. It restores skin complexion by allowing healthy melanocytes to migrate to the affected area.
There is limited information available about the effect of Melgain Lotion on pregnancy. This medicine is to be applied on topical surfaces. The quantities which might get absorbed from the skin is too little and there are rare chances of absorption. However, this medicine should be used under medical supervision by a pregnant woman.
Melgain Lotion should not be applied to the breast of breastfeeding mothers or elsewhere on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period. Inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother.
