Glimepiride is an oral antidiabetic medication prescribed to manage elevated blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when dietary modifications and exercise alone are insufficient. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by the body's impaired response to insulin or insufficient insulin production. Insulin is a hormone crucial for regulating blood sugar utilization.
Uncontrolled high blood sugar can lead to various health complications. Glimepiride functions by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, thereby reducing blood sugar levels. This medication should be taken as directed by a healthcare professional, typically with or after a meal.
Patients should inform their doctor about any existing medical conditions, current medications, supplements, pregnancy status, or breastfeeding plans before initiating treatment. Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, and hypoglycemia. Persistent side effects should be reported to a doctor.
Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, and sleepiness. Immediately consume some sugar or sugar-containing drink. If the person has fainted, do not give food or drink. You must seek immediate emergency medical care if you suspect an overdose with Mepride Tablet.
Mepride Tablets should not be used during pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby, your doctor may switch to insulin therapy. Consult your doctor before use during pregnancy.
Glimepiride may pass into breast milk and should not be taken during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor regarding the use of Mepride Tablet while breastfeeding.
Be cautious not to drink alcohol on an empty stomach. Alcohol increases the risk of low blood sugar.
