Pantop D Capsule

Pantop D capsule is a medication used to treat acidity. It contains a combination of two active ingredients—pantoprazole and domperidone. This medication helps treat conditions such as heartburn, acidity, ulcers, and acid reflux.

Pantop D capsule works by reducing acid production and preventing acid backflow into the food pipe. Additionally, it helps treat nausea, vomiting, and fullness and prevents the backflow of undigested food into the food pipe. Pantocid D capsule , Predom Capsule , Nupenta D capsule and Panplus D 20mg capsule are a few more capsule that also include pantoprazole and domperidone.

Pantop D capsule should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Try to take this medicine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach or at least 1 hour before a meal. Before taking this medicine or initiating the treatment, let your doctor know about your detailed medical and medication history.

Dosage

Overdose

Symptoms of an overdose of Pantop D Capsule include sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements, aggressive behaviour,altered consciousness, drowsiness, slurred speech and feeling anxious. If you have taken too much of this medicine, then contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, then take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

• Pantoprazole works by inhibiting a pump called the proton pump in the stomach wall, responsible for the secretion of stomach acids for digestion and hence leads to reduced acid production.
• Domperidone is an antiemetic medicine. It works by increasing the motility of the stomach and bowel, thus prevents the backflow of the food and stomach acids towards the food pipe.

Directions for Use

Pantop D Capsule should be taken as a whole with a sufficient amount of water. Take Pantop D Capsule, preferably in the morning before your first meal, i.e breakfast.

Pregnancy

Can I take Pantop D Capsule during pregnancy?

There is limited safety information available on the use of Pantop D Capsule in pregnancy. Hence, the use of this medicine should be avoided, unless prescribed by your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Pantop D Capsule while breastfeeding?

Components of Pantop D Capsule pass in the breast milk in a small amount. Hence, it should be avoided while breastfeeding. Your doctor may prescribe you this medicine while you are breastfeeding, only if it is necessary.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed Pantop D Capsule?

Pantop D Capsule have no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines. However, if you experience headaches, dizziness, drowsiness and visual disturbances, it is advisable not to drive or use machines.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Pantop D Capsule?

There is no interaction reported between this medicine and alcohol. However, alcohol is known to increase acidity and can make your acidity worse.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

• You develop watery diarrhoea or fever after taking this medicine.
• You experience black tarry stools and abdominal pain after taking this medicine.
• You have a stomach tumour or cancer.
• You have kidney, liver-related disorders, heart disease
• You have or had a fracture recently or have brittle or weak bones (Osteoporosis).
• You are on steroids or HIV medicines or any anti-infective medicine.
• You experience any skin reaction.
• Consult your doctot if you are on this medicine for a long time. He/she may start you on magnesium, vitamin B12 supplements .
• Taking this medicine for more than one year may can weaken the bones, consult your doctor.

Contraindications

• If you are allergic to pantoprazole, domperidone, or any component of Pantop D Capsule.
• If you are taking an anti-HIV medication called rilpivirine.
• If you have ever had bleeding or obstruction in the stomach or intestine.
• If you have any liver or kidney-related issues.
• If you have prolactin pituitary tumours (tumours of the pituitary gland).
• If you suffer from any heart conditions, such as heart failure, heart rhythm disorders, or electrolyte or salt imbalance.
• Medicines known to alter heart rhythm should not be taken concurrently. If you are unsure which medicines these are, consult your doctor.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

• Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
• Medicines whose activity is dependent on pH of stomach acid may not work properly when taken along with Pantop D Capsule (some antifungals such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, ampicillin, iron salts and other medicines such as erlotinib).
• Blood thinners such as warfarin, when taken concomitantly with Pantop D Capsule can increase the risk of bleeding.
• Other medicines such as medicines used for heart conditions, anti-HIV medicines, certain antibiotics, antimalarials, medicines acting on the brain or used for brain-related disorders should be used cautiously.

Interactions with food items

Avoid Nicotine, caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate and cola) and alcohol as it can stimulate stomach acid or delay ulcer healing and alter the treatment process.

Storage and disposal

• Store Pantop D Capsule below 25°C in a cool and dry place.
• Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
