Pentolate Eye Drop is used before eye examinations and for the treatment of an eye condition called uveitis. Uveitis is a painful eye condition caused due to inflammation in the middle layer of the eye. It is also used to treat some types of inflammation of the eye (uveitis) and reduces redness and swelling.
It contains cyclopentolate as its active ingredient. It belongs to a group of medicines called mydriatic (for pupil dilation) and cycloplegic (paralyze the lens temporarily before an eye examination or surgery). It should be used externally only.
Avoid the use of contact lenses. Avoid touching the dropper with your eye. Before using it, please discuss with your doctor if you have any other eye conditions.
If you have missed instilling Pentolate Eye Drop, apply it as soon as possible. Do not over-instil this medicine to compensate for the missed application.
It works by temporarily dilating or widening the pupil of the eye (preventing the eye from focusing) and paralyzing or relaxing the muscles of the eye before an eye examination or surgery. It also helps in reducing the pain in certain eye conditions like uveitis or after cataract surgery.
The use of Pentolate Eye Drop is not recommended unless strictly prescribed by your doctor. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or if you think you may be pregnant.
A breastfeeding mother should use this medicine only under a doctor's recommendation.
Pentolate Eye Drop may cause blurring of vision, visual disturbance, and sensitivity to light which may alter the ability to drive. Hence, avoid driving until all these symptoms are resolved.
Although there is no known interaction with alcohol along with this medicine, so it is important to consult your physician if you drink too often.
