Placida plus is a tablet that contains two active ingredients, etizolam and escitalopram. Etizolam belongs to a benzodiazepine analogue called thienodiazepine which acts on the brain and nerves (central nervous system. It is a fast-acting tranquilliser that interferes with the natural state of neurotransmitters called GABA, causing calmness, anxiolytic, muscle relaxing, and sedation effects.
Escitalopram is an antidepressant belonging to a particular category of SSRI or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It helps regulate serotonin and other neurotransmitters or brain chemicals whose unbalanced levels are responsible for depression and anxiety disorders.
If you have an overdose of the medicine you may experience cardiac arrhythmias, bradycardia, seizures, depression, tremors, diaphoresis, QT prolongation, fever, low blood pressure, apnoea, vomiting, and dilated pupils. In case of an overdose, call for emergency services immediately.
Tablet Placida Plus should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. Take the missed dose at the earliest. However if it's time for your second dose, skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose unless prescribed by the doctor.
Etizolam is a thienodiazepine of the benzodiazepine analogue which binds itself to a Gamma-aminobutyric or GABA receptor present in the postsynaptic neuron and enhances its inhibitory action. The increased neuronal excitability to chloride ion results in hyperpolarization of the neuronal membrane and stabilisation. Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. As Placida the name suggests, it blocks the reuptake of serotonin between the gap of two neurons, also called inter synaptic cleft, thus increasing the serotonin levels between them. Escitalopram inhibits the reuptake of serotonin.

Tablet Placida Plus decreases sodium in the body particularly due to escitalopram. This ingredient in the drug has SIADH-like activity which means that there is impaired water excretion due to low sodium levels in the body.
It can be taken if you have mild to moderate kidney disease. However, dose adjustment may be required in case of severe renal insufficiency. Always consult a doctor and keep them well informed if you have kidney disease.
