Resure DSR capsule is an anti-reflux medicine used to treat GERD (gastrointestinal reflux disease). GERD is a condition in which acid from the stomach comes back up to the food pipe and causes heartburn, belching, nausea and chest pain. It contains a combination of rabeprazole and domperidone as its active component.

It belongs to a class of medicines called "Proton pump inhibitor" medications used to reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach and "Anti-emetic" medications that increase the motility of the stomach and intestine. Resure DSR capsule acts by decreasing the stomach acid secretion and increasing the motility of the stomach and intestine. You should take this medicine preferably in the morning 30 minutes before meals.

Patients with diarrhoea, osteoporosis, liver problems and electrolyte imbalance should use this medicine cautiously. It should not be used in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Dosage

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose include confusion, anxiety, fits, altered consciousness, sleepiness. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of the medicine take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How Does It Work?

• A pump called the proton pump in the stomach is responsible for the secretion of stomach acids. Rabeprazole binds to this proton pump in stomach cells, thus blocking acid secretion.
• Domperidone increases the motility of the stomach and intestines so that acid does not reflux back into the food pipe.

Directions for Use

It should be taken as a whole with a sufficient amount of water (and should not be chewed or crushed), preferably in the morning before food.

Talk to your doctor if

• You have any kind of pre-existing health condition such as stomach tumour, history of fractures, liver and kidney disease etc.
• You have heart problems and associated symptoms like palpitations, difficulty in breathing, unconsciousness
• You are on this medicine for more than three months. Your blood magnesium levels may drop. Your doctor may perform regular tests for the same.
• You develop skin lesions, especially in the sun-exposed area after taking this medicine.
• You are taking medicines to treat HIV.
• You develop watery diarrhoea, fever after taking this medicine.
• You experience black stools.
• You should not give this medicine to children below 12 years of age.
• You have low levels of vitamin B12. This medicine is known to decrease the absorption of vitamin B12 after long term use. Supplements may be needed.
• Taking this medicine for more than twelve months may result in increased chances of developing bone fractures.

• Especially if you are taking anti-epileptic medicines like phenytoin or brain-related medicines such as diazepam, blood thinners like warfarin, antibiotics like clarithromycin, immunosuppressants like tacrolimus etc.
• Concomitant use of Resure DSR capsule along with antiviral medicines like rilpivirine, atazanavir, antifungals like ketoconazole and Itraconazole should be used with caution.
• Medicine used to treat heart failure like digoxin may lead to toxicity when taken with the Resure DSR capsule.
• If you are taking Warfarin, caution is needed as there are chances of increased bleeding when taken along with the Resure DSR capsule.

Interactions with food items

• It should preferably be taken on an empty stomach.
• However, nicotine and caffeine (coffee, tea, chocolate and cola) can increase stomach acid or delay ulcer healing and hinder the treatment process.
