Taxim-O Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine used in children to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the lungs, tonsils, throat, airways, ear, and urinary tract. It is also prescribed for typhoid fever in children. This medicine is specially formulated for pediatric use and must always be given under adult supervision.
The main active ingredient in Taxim-O Dry Syrup is cefixime. It works by blocking the bacteria’s ability to form their protective cell wall, which causes the bacteria to die and helps the body recover from the infection. Before giving this medicine, inform your doctor if your child has any known allergy to antibiotics or has experienced allergic reactions after taking antibiotics in the past.
It is also important to share details about your child’s medical history, especially if they have kidney problems, digestive disorders, or a history of severe diarrhoea after antibiotic use. Give this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor, in the correct dose and for the full duration. Do not skip doses and never stop the medicine early, even if your child’s symptoms improve, as this may cause the infection to return and increase the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Do not use Taxim-O Dry Syrup for viral infections such as the common cold or flu, as antibiotics are not effective against viruses. For best results, measure each dose carefully using the provided measuring cup or spoon, and shake the bottle well before use.
If you have taken too much of this medicine, seek medical care immediately, as this medicine may damage your brain (Encephalopathy).
It is advisable to complete the course of antibiotics and not miss any doses. If you have missed any dose of this medicine, take it as early as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosage schedule. Do not take a double dose of the medicine to compensate for the missed one.
Cefixime works by killing the bacteria by inhibiting the formation and growth of bacterial cell walls, which eventually leads to the death of the bacteria responsible for causing infection.
Talk to your doctor if
Cefixime may enhance the blood-thinning effect, increasing the risk of bleeding. This may show up as prolonged prothrombin time.
If you're on blood thinners, your doctor may check your INR or prothrombin time more frequently. Report any unusual bleeding, bruising, or black stools.
Cefixime may increase carbamazepine levels in the blood, which can lead to side effects like dizziness, double vision, or unsteady movements.
Let your doctor know if you're taking carbamazepine. Blood levels may need to be monitored, and doses adjusted if side effects appear.
It is recommended to administer Taxim-O Dry Syrup with food to help prevent gastrointestinal upset, such as nausea and abdominal pain. This can enhance tolerability, especially for children.
Inappropriate use of antibiotics constitutes taking antibiotics when not needed, for wrong diseases, taking inappropriate dosage and not completing the course of antibiotic treatment as prescribed by doctor.
No, this medicine is a higher antibiotic and reserved for severe infections. This medicine should be taken only if your doctor considers it essential for you. Also, this medicine is not meant for viral infections.
Antibiotic resistance is a natural process. It occurs when an antibiotic fails to efficiently control the growth or kill bacteria causing infection. A bacteria resistant to antibiotics continues to multiply in the presence of antibiotics, which would normally kill them. As resistance develops, these antibiotic medicines become gradually less effective – and eventually, they lose their effectiveness entirely. Antibiotic resistance is a consequence of the excessive use of antibiotics and misuse even when not required.
No. You should always complete the full course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better. Stopping early may allow the infection to return and can also contribute to antibiotic resistance.
No. Antibiotics are prescribed for specific infections and doses. Sharing medicine can be harmful and may not treat the other person’s illness properly.
Some children or adults may experience mild side effects like diarrhoea, nausea, stomach upset, or rash. Most are temporary, but if you notice severe diarrhoea, difficulty breathing, swelling, or allergic reactions, seek medical help immediately.
No. You should always complete the full course of Taxim-O Dry Syrup prescribed by your doctor, even if your child feels better. Stopping early may allow the infection to return and can also lead to antibiotic resistance.
No. Taxim-O Dry Syrup only works against bacterial infections. It does not work for viral infections like the common cold, flu, or most sore throats.
