Biocarb 150 Mg Injection 1

Biocarb Injection is an anti-cancer medication. It contains carboplatin as the active substance. Biocarb Injection is used to treat certain types of lung cancer and ovarian cancer.

Biocarb Injection will be given to you by your doctor or nurse. Do not self-inject it. Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor if you are pregnant/breastfeeding and about your complete medical history.

This medicine is not recommended for use in children.

Dosage

Missed a Dose

It is unlikely that a dose of Biocarb Injection will be missed if you are monitored in a healthcare setup. However, if you have missed taking a dose of the Injection, inform the doctor or nurse immediately.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

• You are pregnant or there is a chance you may be pregnant.
• You are breastfeeding.
• You have kidney disease.
• You are elderly (over 65 years old).
• You have been treated with cisplatin or similar anti-cancer medicines in the past. If so, Biocarb Injection may cause abnormalities in your nervous system, such as pins and needles or hearing and vision problems.
• You have headaches, altered mental functioning, seizures and abnormal vision (from blurriness to vision loss).
• You develop extreme tiredness and shortness of breath with decreased number of red blood cells (haemolytic anaemia), alone or combined with low platelet count, abnormal bruising (thrombocytopenia) and kidney disease where you pass little or no urine after using this medicine.
• You have a fever (temperature greater than or equal to 38°C) or chills, which could be signs of infection.

Contraindications

• If you are allergic to carboplatin or to any of the ingredients of Biocarb Injection.
• If you have had allergic reactions to similar platinum-containing medicines in the past.
• If you have kidney disease.
• If you have fewer blood cells than normal.
• If you have a tumour that bleeds.
• If you plan to receive a yellow fever vaccination or have just received one.

• Some antibiotics called aminoglycosides, vancomycin, capreomycin and water tablets (diuretics), if taken at the same time as this medicine, may increase the risk of kidney or hearing problems.
• Live or live-attenuated vaccines (for yellow fever vaccine) should not be taken at the same time as Biocarb Injection.
• Caution should be exercised when taking blood-thinning medicines like warfarin and other medicines which decrease the activity of the immune system (ciclosporin, tacrolimus and sirolimus).
• Phenytoin and fosphenytoin (used to treat various types of convulsions and seizures) taken at the same time as this medicine may increase the risk of a seizure.
