Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension is a combination medicine containing Loteprednol, a steroid and gatifloxacin which is an antibiotic. It is used for the treatment of conditions of the eye after an eye operation and which are associated with swelling and bacterial infections of the eye or where there are chances of bacterial infections of the eye. Loteprednol is a steroid that acts by blocking the synthesis of natural substances, i.
e. prostaglandins which are responsible for itching, swelling and redness. Gatifloxacin works by killing the microorganisms responsible for the infection of the eye.
Pain or irritation of eyes, change in taste sensation, burning sensation at the instillation site, dry eyes are some of the side effects of using this medicine.
As Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension is meant for external use, cases of an overdose are unlikely. However, upon accidental ingestion, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital. If you have instilled extra drops of it wash your eyes thoroughly with water.
If you have missed an instillation of Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension, instil it as soon as possible. Do not instil extra drops just to compensate for the missed instillation.
Loteprednol is a steroid that acts by blocking the synthesis of natural substances, i.e. prostaglandins which are responsible for itching, swelling and redness. Gatifloxacin works by killing the microorganisms responsible for the infection of the eyes.
There is limited information about the use of this medicine during pregnancy. It is recommended not to use these drops during pregnancy unless it is considered safe and is advised by your doctor.
It is not known whether components of this medicine pass into breast milk. You should not use this drop if you are breastfeeding.
This medicine causes temporary vision problems. Avoid driving until the vision is clear.
Alcohol is not known to interact with this medicine. However, if you consume alcohol too often discuss it with your doctor.

Since Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension is to be used externally, it is less likely to interact with other medicines. However, you should always consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines for treating other health conditions.
If Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension is used for a prolonged period it increases the pressure of the eyes which can damage the nerve of the eye and can cause vision problems, therefore the pressure of the eye should be monitored if this eye drop is used more than 10 days.
Zylopred Ophthalmic Suspension should not be used for the treatment of fungal infection of the eyes, as it can lead to further spread of fungal infection in the eye causing serious eye problems.
