Overview

Tonact Plus Tablet is a combination medicine containing Atorvastatin (a statin group of medicine that is used to lower abnormal bad cholesterol levels and triglycerides) and Nicotinic Acid, i.e. Vitamin B3, which has multiple benefits for skin, blood, and hair.

It is available as an extended-release tablet. This medicine is also used to prevent stroke and heart attacks. Tonact Plus Tablet should be taken after food, reducing the chances of stomach upset.

It should be taken as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor at equal intervals at the same time of the day. The dose and duration of Tonact Plus Tablet differ according to your illness. Lifestyle changes are mandatory, like exercise, a low-fat diet, quitting smoking, and certain food habits.

You should complete the course, even if you feel symptomatically better. Some side effects include stomachache, constipation, indigestion, headache, diarrhoea, etc. Warning signs to consult your doctor immediately include yellowish discolouration of the skin, dark coloured urine or muscle aches.

There have been limited studies of Tonact Plus Tablet in human pregnancy. But, in rats, it does have harmful effects on the fetus, including congenital malformations. Some cases have been reported in humans as well but not studied. Cholesterol levels increase during pregnancy, and they are essential for fetal development; hence stopping these medicines is a better choice than continuing during pregnancy

Can I take Tonact Plus Tablet while breastfeeding?

Tonact Plus Tablet shouldn't be taken while breastfeeding as well because a similar medicine of this class has been detected in human milk, and it has the potential to develop serious side effects in nursing infants. It can disrupt the lipid metabolism of infants.

Dosage

Overdose

Tonact Plus Tablet, if taken in overdose, should be reported immediately as it increases the risk of developing side effects and may also damage the kidneys or liver acutely.
Overdose can cause diarrhoea, gas, heartburn, joint pain, forgetfulness, confusion, unexplained muscle weakness, tenderness, upper stomach pain, dark-coloured urine, yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes

Missed a Dose

If you have missed a dose of Tonact Plus Tablet, you should take it as soon as possible when you remember. But, if the next dose is due, skip the missed one and continue as per the regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose.

How Does It Work?

Tonact Plus Tablet combines two medicines, Atorvastatin and Vitamin B3 / Nicotinic Acid.
Atorvastatin has lipid-lowering properties. It acts by blocking HMG-CoA-reductase, an enzyme that makes cholesterol in the body. Likewise, atorvastatin lowers 'bad' cholesterol (LDL, VLDL) and triglycerides and increases 'good' cholesterol (HDL).
Vitamin B3 (Niacin); is a subtype of Vitamin B which prevents the excess cholesterol absorption from the food you eat and helps improve heart health. Less cholesterol absorbed, lesser the cholesterol levels in the body; which decreases the chances of heart attack, stroke and helps you live younger and longer.
